Case 8, Abdominal Anomaly or Pathology         (Return to Case List)

Below are shown three series of contiguous abdominal CT slices. Intravascular contrast was administered and is in both the arterial and venous systems. You can scan through each series either by (1) positioning the cursor over the image, holding down the left mouse button, then sliding the cursor up or down the image, or (2) hitting the keyboard keys < and > (no shift required).

The leftmost series is axial, starting at the umbilicus (frame 113) and moving superiorly (to frame 65).
The middle series is coronal, starting at the skin of the anterior abdominal wall (frame 17) and moving posteriorly (to frame 65).
The rightmost series is sagittal, starting slightly to the left of the umbilicus (frame 50)and moving toward the right (to frame 98).
I am unable to give you independent control of each series. I recommend you focus on one at a time when scanning through them.

Try to identify the pathological structure indicated by the lime green questionmark. CLUE: The radiologist identified the liver as being nodular and fatty, consistent with cirrhosis. She also stated that the portal vein was dilated. The answer will be revealed when you click on the drop-down arrow below the images.
